Shubman Gill, clearing the doubts about Virat Kohli’s knee injury, revealed that Kohli's injury is not severe and that he is likely to play in the second ODI. In the Nagpur ODI, Gill played a crucial role in securing a vital win for the team with a splendid knock of 87 runs. Virat Kohli, however, was absent from the Nagpur ODI due to swelling in his right knee. This caused concern among fans, but Shubman Gill confirmed that the injury is not a major issue and that Kohli would be available for the second ODI against England in Cuttack on Sunday. "It's not a very serious injury. Kohli was fine during yesterday’s practice, but he woke up this morning with swelling in his knee. He will join the team for the second ODI," Gill clarified. In the Nagpur ODI, India won by four wickets.
Gill played a pivotal role in this victory, scoring 87 runs and getting close to a century. He humorously mentioned, “I will always play the same shot, no matter how old I get.” Speaking about his innings, Gill stated, “I didn’t think about the century. I formed a good partnership of 94 runs with Shreyas Iyer. It was easy to play after reading the field.” Gill also explained his batting plans, saying, "I am ready to bat at number three; it's not a big deal because I play at number three in Tests as well. Batting at number three is challenging, but my plan is to adapt to every situation.”
When asked about his sweep and reverse sweep shots, Gill responded, "These are not team strategies; every player follows their own style. Practicing sweep and reverse sweep shots in the nets is just a personal choice." With Gill stating that Kohli’s injury issue would likely resolve quickly, fans were relieved. Gill's remarkable performance in the ODI was key to the team's victory. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting whether Gill will continue his form and if Kohli will return to the team for the second ODI.
